Thinking about a career change into tech? It might feel like a big leap, but René’s story is a powerful testament to how passion, dedication, and the right training can orchestrate a successful transition. Just three months after graduating from WBS CODING SCHOOL, this former audio engineer and freelancer landed a paid internship at the leading online pharmacy, DocMorris.

From Sound Waves to Code Lines
At 39, René was already accomplished in audio engineering, working on podcasts, radio shows, and advertisements. But a desire to delve into programming had always been there. He decided to take the plunge, and as he puts it, „it’s turning out great so far.“
Living near Berlin, René searched for a web development bootcamp that was centrally located and offered the right „tech stack.“ As a self-payer, his motivation was high, and WBS CODING SCHOOL fit the bill. He found the onboarding process „incredibly easy and straightforward.“

Mastering New Skills and Embracing Challenges
The Web & App Development Bootcamp equipped René with a host of new skills crucial for a career changer. He highlights learning Figma, Node.js, Express.js, and React – all highly sought-after technologies in today’s market. „Any experience you can get in that field is going to help you along the way,“ he notes, adding, For that WBS CODING SCHOOL for this was great.“
A pivotal moment was when René participated in the Battle of the Bootcamps Hackathon, representing WBS CODING SCHOOL. „You have 48 hours to do some magic with all the things you just learned… I get to meet people. I can network and make some connections, and that’s valuable.“ This experience of applying knowledge, even before officially finishing the bootcamp, was immense. His team even managed to get a basic skeleton of a backend and frontend working during the event, showcasing the practical skills gained.

The DocMorris Internship: A „Better Than This“ Experience
René’s Hackathon success directly led to his internship at DocMorris. „I don’t think it gets better than this for any kind of bootcamp experience,“ he enthuses.
His time at DocMorris was overwhelmingly positive:
- Supportive Environment: „They’re friendly, helpful. You can go to anybody and ask them questions and you will get a nice answer to them.“
- Meaningful Work: He felt he was „making an impact“ and „taking part in a journey for health that feels meaningful.“ Despite initial intern anxieties, he was given significant tasks.
- Mutual Value: Tobias Belch, Senior Software Engineer from DocMorris praised René’s motivation and communication skills, stating, “ it was just extremely pleasant to have and to work with him.“ Anna, UX/UI Designer and Researcher, also from DocMorris, was impressed by his preparedness, eagerness to learn, and design skills, even noting, We would have kept him in the team, definitely.“ She also highlighted that interns like René bring fresh perspectives and new tools to the company.
René’s fears quickly vanished when his contributions were recognized: „somebody came, saw what I did and was like, that’s great. That was cool… That’s a big confidence booster.“

René’s Advice: Embrace the Journey
For others considering a similar path, René advises having an „open mind,“ showing „eagerness to learn,“ and trying your best. „Anxiety and fears are a normal thing,“ he admits, but pushing through leads to growth.
