WHY TAKE THIS BOOTCAMP

Mastering the tools used in big data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can significantly boost your career – but you don’t have to quit your job to learn.

Holding classes only on evenings and on Saturdays, the part-time Data Science Bootcamp will teach you the theory and especially the practice of gathering, analysing and manipulating data. You’ll also master machine learning, which is the foundation of modern AI systems.

The curriculum is suited for those who wish to start a brand new career in tech, as well as for those who wish to upskill without changing their field. The schedule is designed expressly for students who already have a busy routine.

Requirements you WILL need

An open mind

Many of the concepts you will learn will be new and unfamiliar to you. The material we’ll present you with will push you outside of your comfort zone. This is natural. Embrace it.

The patience to crunch numbers

Before you can interpret data, you must gather it, process it, compare it. This is called quantitative work, and while it does not demand any special aptitude or preparation, it does require the willingness and the patience to work with numbers.

A conversational level of English

Our bootcamp is open to international students, and it is in English. You don’t have to be a native speaker, but you should know the language well enough to be able to follow a class, and communicate with your fellow students, without slowing everyone else down.

A computer with internet access

Our virtual platform, where you will meet your instructors and study alongside your peers, is online. To join us, you will need a computer or a laptop connected to the Internet, along with speakers/headphones and a microphone.

Requirements you WON'T need

A talent for mathematics

Data science requires patience and hard work, yes. But it’s not something only the most brilliant minds of this world can do, and it’s fine if you haven’t done any mathematics since school. If you’re still not sure, check out our article on how much maths you need to learn data science.

Prior experience in computer science

You don’t need any qualifications related to computer science or programming. Our bootcamp assumes no prior knowledge and covers the basics of the field in the first few weeks.

A competitive mindset

You are here to learn together with others, not to outdo them. A collaborative, friendly attitude is essential, and your only benchmark for progress should be yourself.

Cutting-edge hardware

While you need your own computer, it doesn’t have to be equipped with the latest graphics card or a NASA processor. The tools used in this bootcamp will work on any reasonably modern computer.

WHAT DOES THE DATA SCIENCE BOOTCAMP TEACH?

Your classes will last three hours on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, complemented with a full day of teaching on Saturday. You will learn about the theory and the mathematical foundations of data science, and from there progress to its practical and commercial applications. The bootcamp equips you with the precise skills necessary to interpret and exploit the data generated by business interactions online (or, to get your computer to do it for you!). A thorough induction in machine learning, a field of Artificial Intelligence, is also provided.

Do you know the difference between data science and data analytics? Find out which one is best for you in our career-focused comparison!

INTRODUCTORY MODULE: THE PRIMER

At the beginning of your bootcamp, you will have access to our Primer, a self-learning course which will acquaint you with the basics of the subject. Think of this as a ‘mini course,’ with exercises and dedicated support from a junior instructor, to familiarise you with the basic concepts that are important for your upcoming courses.

Essential Statistics
SQL
Tableau
Python

BUSINESS ANALYTICS WITH SQL, TABLEAU AND PYTHON

Learn how to read, clean, explore and visualise data from real businesses using industry-standard tools like SQL for data visualisation and Tableau for presentations. Then get started with Python, and become handy with libraries like Pandas and Seaborn for EDA (Exploratory Data Analysis).

The goal isn’t simply for you to handle data in the abstract, but to learn how to deliver actionable recommendations and craft business proposals.

What you will learn:
Data-Driven Businesses
Query Relational Databases with SQL and build interactive visualisations with Tableau to support data-driven decision-making.
Python
Set up your data science portfolio with Git and Github, then start learning Python: write loops and functions, and learn to handle all kinds of data.
Data Storytelling
Learn data cleaning and transformation with Python’s Pandas, then turn that data into a compelling business proposal with Matplotlib and Seaborn.

EXTRACTING KNOWLEDGE: STATISTICS, APIS AND GCP

Real use-cases for concepts in statistics become easier to handle with Python libraries like SciPy and Beautiful Soup, which let you work with fundamental algorithms and extract data. You will also shift your focus online as you study APIs and database management with Google Cloud Platform.

This module will equip you with the skills to perform traditional hypothesis testing (A/B testing to optimise web UI/UX) and to build an entire data pipeline from scratch, harnessing the power of cloud computing.

What you will learn:
A/B Testing
Generalising from data and testing hypotheses are two pillars of Inferential Statistics. Learn how these old-school techniques are applied in modern data science with case studies.
Data Pipelines
Use Python to gather real-time data from APIs on the internet, then build a pipeline to funnel that data from the cloud directly to your database.

MACHINE LEARNING

Time to start learning about AI, and more specifically unsupervised machine learning, which applies algorithms after being told what to look for, as well as supervised machine learning, in which the system finds patterns without external guidance. You’ll also deepen your knowledge of Python as you work with the Scikit Learn library.

You will practise these concepts and tools by working on real professional problems, from predicting prices in the housing market to clustering songs based on their audio features.

What you will learn:

Clustering Songs

Use unsupervised machine learning to discover the hidden, underlying structure within data about music, then to group songs into clusters based on their audio features. Tune your model so that these groups resemble musical genres.

Predicting Housing Prices

Apply supervised machine learning to the world of real estate! Train, tune and interpret algorithms like k-nearest neighbours, random forests and support vector machine, and use these to predict the price of houses in a given market.

GENERATIVE AI AND LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS

Generative AI and Large Language Models may produce end results that seem almost magical, but under the hood they are processing hard data. You will gain a tangible understanding of this as you build one of the most popular types of AI software: an interactive chatbot.

Your learning doesn’t end there though: as you prepare yourself for the job market, get ready for one last push of advanced SQL exercises, designed to prepare you for a technical interview.

What you will learn:
Generative AI
Dive into the world of Large Language Models (LLMs) and find out how to engineer your own chatbot, specialised in your favourite topics.
SQL Interview Preparation
Practice some of the most advanced SQL questions that you might encounter in a technical interview. We will teach you how to nail it!

FINAL PROJECT

It’s time to put everything you have learned to use. Build a full-scale project from the ground up with teammates in conditions similar to those you will encounter in the tech industry. Design something for use in the real world and showcase it in your portfolio when you start applying for jobs.
